Audition Day – FinalPoints

Please note that this is a closed audition. Even though all SCP activities are open to families this is a special circumstance. Thank you for understanding.

1. Please complete the questionnaire above and bring it with you
2. Please arrive 5 minutes early for registration which will be set up outside
3. Groups 1-4 please take careful note of your early arrival times.
4. Arrival time for groups 5,6 and 7 is 1.30pm
5. All choristers to main hall by 1.30pm for audition commencement
6. There will be seating outside the hall as well as nearby parks, cafe, IGA etc and a short hop into Subi
7. Audition will run to around 3.45pm at which time we hope to have you come in and enjoy a beautiful mini-recital
8. Please pack a snack and water bottle for your chorister. There will be break periods.
9. It’s a good idea for your child to go to the toilet beforehand so that they don’t have to leave at inconvenient times.
10. Groups 5&6 – we thank you in advance for staying an extra 30 mins,
11. Group 7 – we already know you or have already had a chat so you are free to leave at end. However, be sure to let managers know it you have something you’d like to ask.aps up to 4.15pm so that the managers have that chance to catch up with you then.

Make Your Own Kind Of Music

On May 17th we will have a group objective. To work together to get this arrangement as good as we can to present to your parents at the end. This means you will need to prepare in advance.

– Please learn Part 2 up to the ‘Breakdown’ (Bar 60)

– Everyone will sing the verse 1 and 2 solo parts. So, be sure to practice those too.

– You are free to prepare more than this …but this is the minimum .

Thank you for participating in the auditions for the 2026-27 OBV Studio Choir Program. We hope you enjoy and grow from it. Congratulations also because it is highly selective and you have already achieved much just by being here.

The OBV Studio Choir is a singing development project with a professional edge because it creates many new songs and arrangements every year for schools and choirs around Australia and overseas. Its recordings are purchased by them and the choir receives appearance fees for key live events. Most importantly though, it is a nurturing and supportive community for gifted young people that provides immersion and accelerated advancement….for the right type of individual.

We are looking for the type of young person who is willing and able to prepare well and apply themselves in the recording studio environment. A team mentality is essential. We take a long term approach to our singers’ development and have many 4th and 5th year choristers in the program. Patience and persistence are qualities we value. Audition Bullet Points

• You are auditioning for entry into our 2-year core LIFT program. Please be familiar with our development pathway.
• the audition is primarily aimed at those in year 6 and 7.
• a year 6 applicant may audition again in year 7.
• a year 5 or year 6 applicant may be offered a place in our Step Up! program. This is our favoured pathway into the SCP.
• participating in this audition carries no obligation to accept an offer to enter the SCP.
• you must be available to attend the group audition stage on May 17th at Shenton Park Community Centre. Your exact attendance time will be provided.
• some applicants may be called into the studio before this event and others afterwards. Not everyone will have the same path.

Communicating Using the Internet

• WhatsApp is important to the way our program works and all involved need to be proficient with it.
• If it seems that we are asking you to do quite a lot via the internet that is because the SCP depends on this so much and your interactions with us form part of the assessment.

Working independently

• Studio choristers are required to prepare for every recording session and live rehearsal. This requires a work ethic, access to the internet and the listening skills to accurately learn the part that has been provided.
• For recording sessions the work area is Practice & Chat.
• For these auditions all activities will take place on the page you are reading now.

Your Family and Your Situation

• being in the OBV Studio Choir requires commitment and family support. Please take the time to inspect the SCP Calendar for the year ’26-’27 which will be available soon. Carefully consider whether this is achievable for you and your family. We won’t mind if you reconsider.
